Name of the Foundation
The Phyllis Phund is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping families with children diagnosed with Down syndrome.
Known for her playful spirit, Phyllis Maria Mitra was a wonderful and loving mother of 5 children and 6 grandchildren. She was extremely generous with all of her children and grandchildren. She had a heart of gold and and tried to help everyone who needed it. She passed away suddenly in 2008 and in an effort to keep her memory alive, we have fashioned this foundation in her name.
Reason for the Foundation
Phyllis’ grandson, Angelo Michael Mitra, was diagnosed with Down Syndrome in December 2010. This foundation was formed so that Phyllis would also be able to give to Angelo even in her physical absence. She will always be an angel watching over Angelo and all other children with Down’s syndrome.
Our mission is to raise money to support the Down Syndrome Research and Treatment Foundation in the hope to understand the underlying genetic, biological and neurological processes in Down syndrome and how they relate to one another to cause cognitive dysfunction.
To help people with Down syndrome lead full and more independent lives.
